In Netscape 4:
Go to Edit -> Preferences
Open Mail Servers on the left-hand side and look for "Outgoing Mail Server". Underneath "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server", type your e-mail address into the box labeled "Outgoing mail server username"

In Netscape 6/7:

Go to Edit -> Mail/News Account Settings. Click on "Outgoing Server (SMTP)". In the menu box on the left, under Server Name, enter the name of your mail server. Check "User name and password" and type your e-mail address into the "User Name" box. Hit OK.

Versions earlier than Netscape 4.0 do not support SMTP authentication.
