4  Network Information & News and Announcements / Network / Server Status / Unexpected Server Crashes Last Week. on: October 17, 2007, 12:49:26 am
In our effort to provide with better services, 2 weeks ago we have been started a new increase of webspace in mb to every account (200mb to 500mb) depending on the plans, we have made some errors in the servers manipulation.
And as you have noticed, after those manipulations, last week we have experienced unexpected server crashes (up to 28 hours), those that holds and manage the scheduling systems resulting in suspension of accounts/websites.

We also noticed that our main website was down, so no immediate contact possible for many of you to have news about the progress of the issue.

We have lot of experience managing servers and its security, but we can say today, that we all have something to learn everyday! In the meantime, we are pretty sure that this will never happen again.

Please note that an skype account is always open by Javier Yep, our lead marketing and management chief, to let you make contact in case of a similar situation should happen again. He will communicate with you and inform you about any progress and/or any issue.

skype username = javieryep

For the extra mb space we were started working on, it will be setup later the next month, you will get notified.

Thank you for your understanding and support!
And please accept our apologies.

5  Network Information & News and Announcements / News and Announcements / Frontpage EOL and Termination of Support on: September 17, 2007, 03:06:28 pm
Unix Frontpage Extensions reached EOL on June 30th, 2006 and Windows Frontpage Extensions are no longer actively developed. Because of these developments and the possible security risks they pose we have decided to remove Frontpage Extensions from our Unix and Windows servers on January 15th, 2008. We will terminate active support for Frontpage effective October 31st, 2007. We recommend that you and/or your client switch to an application that is not dependent on server side extension, such as Dreamweaver or Microsoft Expression Web by October 31st 2007 to avoid any interruptions in service.

We realize that a number of our clients rely on Frontpage and this will not be an easy transition. In an effort to ease the transition we have tried to give adequate lead time to allow you to prepare. We feel that January 15th, roughly 4 months off, is the right time to remove Frontpage Extensions. Feel free to ask questions in this thread though you may get faster responses from support via email. Just please remember that this is not a support thread, any Frontpage issues you have on or before October 31st, 2007 should be directed to our support staff.

Roadmap:

October 31st, 2007 - Support for Frontpage Extensions terminated, though it will remain enabled on our servers.

January 15th, 2008 - Frontpage Extensions will cease to work altogether when they are removed from both our Unix and Windows servers.

In case you are wondering why we chose January 15th... we didn't want anyone that left this to the last minute to have to try and rush to get it done over the holidays.

9  Network Information & News and Announcements / Network / Server Status / Scheduled Windows Maintenance Feb. 3rd and 4th on: January 31, 2007, 08:04:40 pm
Saturday February 3rd at 11am ET we will begin running check disk on 17 servers. This process will take 2 days, so please advise your customers now that this maintenance is scheduled. This process **will** take down sites for the duration of time that it takes for check disk to run on the affected servers. Each server will take approximately 3 hours and we will be doing 3 servers, approximately every 3 hours during the hours of 11am & 11pm ET on Saturday, February 3rd and Sunday, February 4th. Below you will find a list of the affected servers and the order in which they will be attended to:

Saturday, February 3rd
NT6, NT16, NT18: 11am - 3pm ET
NT19, NT20, NT22: 3pm – 6pm ET
NT23, NT27, NT42: 6pm – 9pm ET
Sunday February 4th
NT46, NT48, NT50: 11am – 3pm ET
CF3, NT10, NT21: 3pm – 6pm ET
NT29, NT36: 6pm – 9pm ET

**All times are approximate. While we are estimating check disk to complete in 3 hours, it may take longer on some servers.
**We will not be issuing downtime credits for any sites that experience downtime because they are located on the affected servers.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation.
10  Network Information & News and Announcements / News and Announcements / H-Sphere Upgrade to 2.5 Patch 8 on Feb. 5th 2007 on: January 25, 2007, 12:57:32 am
On Sunday February 4th during the hours of approximately 1:00PM - 11:00pm ET we will begin running check disk on all the Windows servers to be sure they are ready for the upgrade and that the drive(s) are 100% for this upgradeable. There will be sporadic reboots of the servers will this process is taking place so please warn your customers that they may experience downtime during this process. We will send out of a list of the affected servers in a separate email.

On February 5th at 11:00PM ET we will begin to upgrade H-Sphere from its current version. This upgrade will more than likely take at least 8 hours; however that is an estimate and it may very well take longer due to the magnitude of this upgrade. There will be sporadic reboots of all Windows servers so the upgrade(s) can take affect. Please warn your customers that they may experience downtime during this upgrade and to allow for a minimum of 8 hours for the upgrade to complete.

Questions and Answers:

Q: Why is this upgrade being done during the week and not weekend?

A: Psoft support only works during the week, therefore the upgrade will be done while they are available to assist us if any bugs do arise during the upgrade.

Q: Why at night for Eastern Time?

A: The upgrade takes a minimum of 8 hours to complete. By this time Psoft support is online to assist us. Also, overnight hours are our slowest time for tickets and we will be able to give our full attention to the upgrade.

Q: Will ASP.net 2.0 be supported?

A: Yes, asp.net will be available on all new servers installed; we plan to install a new Windows server within 7 days of completion of the upgrade. Current customers can asked to be moved to this server and new customers can ask to also be put on this system. It will be off for new signups at first but any can be moved to this if they plan to use .net 2.0.

Q: Will Front Page still be supported even though it has reached EOL ( End of Life ) by Microsoft?

A: Yes, it's still supported in H-Sphere 2.5 and we will keep supporting it for all customers at this time. However, we will be setting a date within the coming year to phase out support for FrontPage to only current customers and then to be removed from all systems by 2008. This is due to the fact there will be no more FrontPage fixes, support or upgrades from Microsoft.

Q: Will SPF be supported?

A: Hsphere 2.5 does support SPF, however at this time we have not had time to fully test it in Hsphere 2.5 on a live system.

Q: Where can I see a list of new stuff and bug fixes?

A: You can view all of this at: http://www.psoft.net/HSdocumentation/versions/index.php\?v=all&p=r
11  F.A.Q (Frequently Asked Questions) - All Public / Billing / How does the billing cycle work? on: January 24, 2007, 10:35:54 pm
We bill our customers on the signup date, for one month in advance. Overage charges will appear on the next month's bill. For instance, your credit card (via paypal) would be billed on the day you signup (say Jan 1st), for the month of January.
12  F.A.Q (Frequently Asked Questions) - All Public / Billing / How do I update my payment information? on: January 24, 2007, 10:35:27 pm
You don't need to update your paymente information, because we use Paypal as our payment processor. However if you want to update the information used when you signed up, you can do it in your control panel under 'Billing' --> 'Billing Profile'
13  F.A.Q (Frequently Asked Questions) - All Public / Billing / What About Instant Activation? on: January 24, 2007, 10:34:56 pm
We use to have 'Instant Activation' enabled, but for security reasons we have disabled this fonction and any account can take up to 3 hours to be created.

Why? - On year 2003, we've had thousands of automated signups made with scripts that gave access to the instant activation system and those accounts were created by not paying any signup cost.

So Instant Activation is not enabled forever?
- Today, no company in the world have Instant Activation enabled and many of those companies also have been the target of theses activities.

Ok, but Why the account creation needs up to 3 hours? - This allow us to verify that signups and their respectives payments are properly completed through paypal.
14  F.A.Q (Frequently Asked Questions) - All Public / Billing / Why do you use PayPal to handle payments? on: January 24, 2007, 10:34:10 pm
There is one word answer: "Security", yours and ours. We should say that using PayPal we reduced ilegal operations at %0, that's mean NO FRAUD.
15  F.A.Q (Frequently Asked Questions) - All Public / Billing / Do you store credit card numbers? on: January 24, 2007, 10:33:45 pm
We use Paypal as our payment processor, so we don't store credit card numbers... we don't even see them. Paypal.com is one of the best payment processor on the web, they are on business for years now. Your payments are in security.
